Fairest Lord Jesus Lyrics and History

Fairest Lord Jesus Hymn Lyrics

1 Fairest Lord Jesus,
ruler of all nature,
O thou of God and man the Son,
Thee will I cherish,
Thee will I honor,
thou, my soul’s glory, joy, and crown.

2 Fair are the meadows,
fairer still the woodlands,
robed in the blooming garb of spring:
Jesus is fairer,
Jesus is purer
who makes the woeful heart to sing.

3 Fair is the sunshine,
fairer still the moonlight,
and all the twinkling starry host:
Jesus shines brighter,
Jesus shines purer
than all the angels heaven can boast.

4 Beautiful Savior!
Lord of all the nations!
Son of God and Son of Man!
Glory and honor,
praise, adoration,
now and forevermore be thine.

Fairest Lord Jesus Hymn Story

Fairest Lord Jesus author is unknown. It was originally a German song.

Some have suggested that this hymn was sung by German crusades during the Crusades when Christians fought against Moslems for control of Jerusalem.

This has however been disputed by some scholars who think it was composed after the crusades. The English version was translated in 1873 by Joseph Seiss.

Joseph Seiss was American theologian and Lutheran minister. He was born on 18th March 1823 and died on 20th June 1904.
