Near To the Heart of God Lyrics

Near To the Heart of God Lyrics

1 There is a place of quiet rest,
near to the heart of God,
a place where sin cannot molest,
near to the heart of God.

Refrain:
O Jesus, blest Redeemer,
sent from the heart of God,
hold us, who wait before thee,
near to the heart of God.

2 There is a place of comfort sweet,
near to the heart of God,
a place where we our Savior meet,
near to the heart of God. [Refrain]

3 There is a place of full release,
near to the heart of God,
a place where all is joy and peace,
near to the heart of God. [Refrain]

Near To the Heart of God Hymn Story

“Near to the Heart of God” is a Christian hymn that was composed by Cleland Boyd McAfee. It was first published in 1903.

McAfee wrote this hymn after the concurrent death of his two young nieces from diphtheria.

This was probably written to console himself by imagining that they were near the heart of God.

A place where they would never be molested by sin and its effects. A place he imagined they could find joy and peace.
