Little Drops of Water Lyrics
Author: Julia Abigail Carney
Little drops of water
Little grains of sand,
Make the mighty ocean,
And the beauteous land.
And the little moments,
Humble though they be,
Make the mighty ages
Of eternity.
So our little errors
Lead the soul away
From the path of virtue,
Oft in sin to stray.
Little deeds of kindness,
Little words of love,
Make our earth an Eden
Like the heaven above.
Little Drops of Water Hymn History
Little Drops of Water is a children’s hymn that first appeared in a reading book for the Boston Primary Schools in the United States in 1845. It was composed by Mrs. Julia A Carney, a teacher in one of the Boston Schools.
This song was later republished in the American Juvenile Magazine and from here it was copied into Hymns and Songs published in 1855.
It is from this point that the hymn took off in popularity. It is now one of the most well-known hymns in the English-speaking world.
In 1876 Bishop Bickersteth added a new verse:
Little ones in glory, Swell the angel’s song. Make us meet, dear Savior, For their holy throng
