Sing Hosanna (Give Me Oil in My Lamp) Hymn Story
‘Sing Hosanna’ or ‘Give Me Oil in My Lamp’ is one of the most loved children songs or hymn whose origin is not clear.
It is a song that is based on one of Jesus Christ’s parables, known to many as the Parable of the Ten Virgins.
These are the ten virgins that were attending a wedding. Some of them were labelled as wise and some of them were foolish.
The wise ones brought extra or spare oil for their lamps while the foolish ones did not bring spare oil.
And as the bridegroom delayed the foolish were exposed as their lamps used up all their oil and had no spare oil.
Because of this they asked their wise friends to help them out with oil. When this did not work, they had to leave the venue of the wedding to buy oil.
When they returned the bridegroom had arrived and the door was closed, and they could not get in.
