Wondrous Love Lyrics

1 What wondrous love is this,
O my soul, O my soul?
What wondrous love is this, O my soul?
What wondrous love is this
That caused the Lord of bliss
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul;
To bear the dreadful curse for my soul, for my soul;

2 To God and to the Lamb
I will sing, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb, I will sing;
To God and to the Lamb
Who is the great I am,
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;
While millions join the theme, I will sing, I will sing;

3 And when from death I’m free,
I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free, I’ll sing on;
And when from death I’m free,
I’ll sing and joyful be,
And through eternity I’ll sing on, I’ll sing on!
And through eternity, I’ll sing on.

Wondrous Love Hymn Story

“Wondrous Love” is a hymn whose authorship is unknown. There have been attempts to attribute this hymn to various writers. Because of this confusion we will continue to consider the author as anonymous.

This hymn was first published in Stith Mead’s hymnal for Methodists, A General Selection of the Newest and Most Admired Hymns and Spiritual Songs (1811), and in Starke Dupuy’s hymnal for Baptists, Hymns and Spiritual Songs (1811).

This hymn aims at discussing the love of God and Jesus Christ. Love that caused the Son of God to leave the perfect heaven and live on this corrupted world and die for us.

A death that has made it possible to be accepted as sons of God through the blood that Jesus shed on the cross of calvary.
