This Little Light of Mine Hymn Story
The authorship of this beautiful children’s hymn is disputed. Some people say it is anonymous, but others say it is Harry Dixon Loes.
The truth is somewhere in the middle in my opinion. It must have been in use as African American folk song before it was published by Harry Dixon Loes in 1920.
In any case the Moody Bible Institute, where he was a teacher, says he did not write it.
This gospel song has gone through various rearrangements over the years.
