While Jesus Whispers to You

While Jesus Whispers to You Lyrics

Author: William Ellsworth Witter

1 While Jesus whispers to you,
Come, sinner, come!
While we are praying for you,
Come, sinner, come!
Now is the time to own Him,
Come, sinner, come!
Now is the time to know Him,
Come, sinner, come!

2 Are you too heavy laden!
Come, sinner, come!
Jesus will bear your burden,
Come, sinner, come!
Jesus will not deceive you,
Come, sinner, come!
Jesus can now redeem you,
Come, sinner, come!

3 Oh, hear His tender pleading,
Come, sinner, come!
Come and receive the blessing,
Come, sinner, come!
While Jesus whispers to you,
Come, sinner, come!
While we are praying for you,
Come, sinner, come!

While Jesus Whispers to You Hymn Story

Reverend William Ellsworth Witter is the author of “While Jesus Whispers to You”. He wrote this in the summer of 1877 after being influenced by the biography of the famous hymn writer Mr. P.P. Bliss.

After reading the biography Bliss’s songs kept appearing in his mind and he prayed that God would help him to write hymns that would lead people to Christ.

One Saturday afternoon Witter was forking out grass into haycocks when the words of this hymn seemed to sing themselves into his heart.

He left the field and hurried to his house and kneeling beside the bed in his brother’s room he began to write down on paper the words that were still in his mind.

He says he did this “with a strange consciousness that they were God-given, and that God would use them.

And judging by the millions that have been touched by this hymn we can all agree with the author that God himself had a hand in this song.
