Look and Live Lyrics
1 I’ve a message from the Lord, Hallelujah!
The message unto you I’ll give.
’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”
Refrain:
“Look and live,” my brother, live.
Look to Jesus now and live.
’Tis recorded in His Word, Hallelujah!
It is only that you “look and live.”
2 I’ve a message full of love, Hallelujah!
A message, O my friend, for you.
’Tis a message from above, Hallelujah!
Jesus said it, and I know ’tis true. [Refrain]
3 Life is offered unto you. Hallelujah!
Eternal life your soul shall have
If you’ll only look to Him. Hallelujah!
Look to Jesus, who alone can save. [Refrain]
4 I will tell you how I came, Hallelujah!
To Jesus when He made me whole:
’Twas believing on His name, Hallelujah!
I trusted and He saved my soul. [Refrain]
Look and Live Hymn Story
“Look and Live” is a Christian hymn that was composed by William A Ogden. It was first published in 1887.
This song reminds me of the story of the poisonous snakes that infected the Israelites camps while journeying from Egyptian exile to Canaan.
This was after the Israelites had grumbled about the conditions in the desert and God allowed poisonous snakes to invade their camps.
God simply removed his protection which had protected them from harm and now they were without protection.
As a solution the bibles says, “Then the Lord said to Moses, ‘Make a snake image and mount it on a pole. When anyone who is bitten looks at it, he will recover.’ So, Moses made a bronze snake and mounted it on a pole. Whenever someone was bitten, and he looked at the bronze snake, he recovered.’”
This bronze serpent represented Christ who was to be crucified on a tree so that we could be saved from the poison of sin. We are therefore advised to look and live at Jesus for our salvation.
