The Lord’s Prayer Lyrics
1 Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
2 Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins, as we forgive them that sin against us.
3 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil,
for thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
The Lord’s Prayer Hymn Story
The Lord’s Prayer is based on the prayer Jesus taught his disciples.
This was after one of the disciples asked Jesus to teach them how to pray.
This was after observing how Jesus prayed and may have noted that his prayers were different from theirs or others they had heard.
Here is how Luke 11:1 puts it, “He was praying in a certain place, and after he had finished, one of his disciples said to him, “Lord, teach us to pray, as John taught his disciples.”
There are various versions of this prayer in the gospels. To compound it further we have different translations into English.
