When I Think of the Goodness of Jesus Lyrics

When I think of the goodness of Jesus,
and what he has done for me,
my soul cries out, “Hallelujah!”
Praise God for saving me.

When I Think of the Goodness of Jesus Hymn Story

“When I think of the Goodness of Jesus” is another African American spiritual.

African American spirituals are the tunes and songs that the slaves sang on the plantations during their forced labor.

In Africa where they came from, people sing when they are working on the farms, fishing, drinking beer etc. In an African village music is used for almost all activities.

It is therefore not surprising to me an African that these slaves would continue that tradition in Americas.

The only difference is that those tunes were now being sung to Christian words.
