Unfortunately, no one knows for sure the author of this beautiful hymn that continues to bless millions of people worldwide. There are sources that claim that this song originated from India, It is said to be based on the words of an Indian Christian martyr who converted to Christianity in the 19th century.
Apparently, it is based on the last words of this martyr. The words of this martyr were written by Sadhu Sundar Singh
I should however state that this song has gone through various revisions and the present version is a twentieth century version.
It is a song that appeals to everybody from children to old people.
It expresses the desire of all Christians to follow our Lord and savior Jesus Christ. Even though we almost always fail to hit the mark we strive through the power of the Holy Spirit to go forward and not turn back.
