Let All the World in Every Corner Sing Lyrics
Author: George Herbert
1 Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing,
“My God and King!”
The heav’ns are not too high,
God’s praise may thither fly;
the earth is not too low,
God’s praises there may grow.
Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing,
“My God and King!”
2 Let all the world in ev’ry corner sing,
“My God and King!”
The church with psalms must shout:
no door can keep them out.
But, more than all, the heart
must bear the longest part.
Let all the world in ev’ery corner sing,
“My God and King!”
Let All the World in Every Corner Sing Hymn History
‘Let all the World in Every Corner Sing’ is a song that was composed by George Herbert.
George Herbert was born on 3rd April 1593. The fifth born son of Richard Herbert and Magdalen, daughter of Sir Richard Newport.
He went to Trinity College, Cambridge where he graduated with a B.A. in 1611. He served at the court of King James I but retired when the king died.
As a young man George was not very religious but when King James I died, he decided to join the ministry of the word of God and became rector of a county parish near Salisbury.
One of his favorite hobbies was music and he was known to play and sing with his friends at the cathedral.
George Herbert was usually known for being smart and clean but one day on his way to the cathedral he found a man whose horse had collapsed in the mud.
He offered his help and as a result he arrived at the cathedral in dirty clothes.
When one person disparaged him for the dirty clothes, he said he thought that what he had done would be music to him at night and that had he not helped his conscience would not be at peace.
And he added, “I praise God for this occasion. Come, let’s tune our instrument!”
