All My Hope on God Is Founded Lyrics
1 All my hope on God is founded;
he doth still my trust renew.
Me through change and chance he guideth,
only good and only true.
calls my heart to be his own.
2 Human pride and earthly glory,
sword and crown betray his trust;
what with care and toil he buildeth,
tower and temple, fall to dust.
But God’s power,
hour by hour,
is my temple and my tower.
3 God’s great goodness aye endureth,
deep his wisdom, passing thought:
splendour, light, and life attend him,
beauty springeth out of naught.
from his store
new-born worlds rise and adore.
4 Daily doth th’ Almighty giver
bounteous gifts on us bestow;
his desire our soul delighteth,
pleasure leads us where we go.
Love doth stand
at his hand;
joy doth wait on his command.
5 Still from earth to God eternal
sacrifice of praise be done,
high above all praises praising
for the gift of Christ his Son.
Christ doth call
one and all:
ye who follow shall not fall.
All My Hope on God Is Founded Hymn Story
“All My Hope on God is Founded” is a hymn that was composed by Joachim Neander in the 1600s. It was originally written in German. The hymn was translated into English by Robert Bridges.
Joachim Neander was born at Bremen, Germany in 1650. His last name was originally Neuman (Newman) or Nieman, but this was later changed to the Greek form of the name, Neander by his grandfather.
As a young man he led a riotous life and the day he got converted he had the intention of disturbing the meeting with his naughty friends.
Fortunately for him the message of that day touched his heart that he later gave his life to Christ.
Later in life Neander was an important hymn-write for the German Reformed Church.
Joachim composed about sixty hymns during his life and is reported to have provided the tunes for most of the songs he composed.
