Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us Lyrics

1 Savior, like a shepherd lead us,
Much we need Thy tender care;
In Thy pleasant pastures feed us,
For our use Thy folds prepare:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast bought us, Thine we are.

2 We are Thine, do Thou befriend us,
Be the guardian of our way;
Keep Thy flock, from sin defend us,
Seek us when we go astray:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Hear, O hear us when we pray;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Hear, O hear us when we pray.

3 Thou hast promised to receive us,
Poor and sinful though we be;
Thou hast mercy to relieve us,
Grace to cleanse, and power to free:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Early let us turn to Thee;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Early let us turn to Thee.

4 Early let us seek Thy favor,
Early let us do Thy will;
Blessed Lord and only Savior,
With Thy love our bosoms fill:
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast loved us, love us still;
Blessed Jesus, blessed Jesus,
Thou hast loved us, love us still.

Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us Hymn Story

“Savior Like a Shepherd Lead Us” is a hymn that was composed by Dorothy A Thrupp in 1836. The tune is Called “BRADBURY” written by William Bradbury. William Bradbury specifically wrote this tune for this song.

This song was initially written for the youth though nowadays it is no longer seen as a hymn for the youth.

The first publication to include this song was Hymns for the Young published in 1840 and the editor for this was the author, Dorothy Ann Thrupp.

Even though the text appeared without an author most people believe that the author was Dorothy Ann Thrupp.

In any case this was not the first time that she had published a hymn anonymously or with her initials, or with a pseudonym.

Dorothy Ann was born on 10th June 1779 in London, United Kingdom. She mainly wrote her hymns for the youth and toddlers. As indicated before many of her songs either had her initials or were published anonymously making it difficult to account for all her hymns. She went to be with the Lord on 15th December 1847.

The creator of the tune William Bradbury was a protege of the famous musician Lowell Mason.
